Rufous-Sided Towhee

I've been seeing a lot of feathers on campus lately, but it's usually just pigeon feathers, nothing special. But yesterday, I spotted this beauty! The colors are even more vivid in real life--bright orange and black.

I think it might be from a red-winged blackbird...

Update: Gloria informs me that it's a rufous-sided towhee (pronounced ROOF-us sided TOO-ee) !

"The rusty orange color is very distinctive. It's a ground-foraging bird so you would be likely to spot a feather where it was rooting around for seeds, and it's fairly common in the summer. The robin also has an orangey red breast but the basic color is a greyish brown whereas that feather was black and orange."
