Last spring, Guy and I really began to notice a lot of activity along "the squirrel highway." We have big bay windows in our apartment on the 4th floor, and right outside, there are telephone wires stretching more or less parallel to our windows and which extend for several blocks. At least once a day, and usually more often, we would see a squirrel running along back and forth along the wires.
It was truly an innovative idea on the part of the sqwerl because by using the wires to get around, he was able to completely avoid the more dangerous streets below (and the many cars zooming by).
Soon we began to notice that this little guy was transporting nuts! Every day, he would conscientiously run across the wire one way, carrying his nut, then deposit it, and run back for more. He was a hard worker.
We got in the habit of excitedly calling out whenever we saw him. So one day, Guy drew this illustration of me alerting him to the squirrel with a nut. I like the details; I'm wearing a pair of his striped pajamas, and he even drew my usual Diet Coke + drinking glass on the armrest of the couch, where I always put them.
